Our Membership

The National Forensic League is the largest interscholastic forensic organization in the U.S. And we’ve never been more vital: In 2011 alone, the League helped more than 120,000 high school and middle school students learn to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, and ethical citizens.
As alumni, our students enjoy lifetime membership in the League. Since our founding in 1925, we’ve seen more than 1.4 million young adults transform themselves into vibrant, engaged citizens who are active listeners and persuasive communicators, ready to address the issues that affect our nation—and the world. Consider those who got their start as student members of the National Forensic League: Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Stephen Breyer, and Samuel Alito; media visionaries Oprah Winfrey and Ted Turner; actors Brad Pitt and Renee Zellweger; TV personalities Stephen Colbert and Tom Lennon; and Senators Richard Lugar, Russ Feingold, and William Frist. We can’t wait to see what impact today’s student members will have on our world.
The League is also the largest professional coach membership organization for forensics in the world. The depth of commitment of our 3,500 coaches — to their students and to our organization — inspires us to provide excellence in resources and support, working to motivate them and strengthen our community.
