Partnerships

Resources from our Partners

As part our commitment to strengthening and building the speech and debate community, the National Forensic League creates partnership initiatives that provide additional opportunities and resources for our members, as well as expand our network.

International Public Policy Forum

The Bickel & Brewer/New York University International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) is the only national contest that gives high school students the opportunity to participate in written and oral debates on issues of public policy. More than 300 high schools and national teams, representing over 40 states and several foreign countries, including South Africa, Korea, Taiwan, and the Slovakia, registered for the 2011-2012 competition by submitting qualifying essays. The field is first narrowed to 32 schools, and eventually, to an Elite 8 who receive an all-expenses paid trip to debate each other in New York City! All teams advancing receive cash prizes. This year, Team Czech Republic, took home the grand prize - $10,000 in scholarship money and the Bickel & Brewer Cup.

American Legion Oratorical Contest

The League has partnered with the American Legion to offer students an opportunity to supplement their experiences in speech and debate competition, particularly in oratory and extemporaneous speaking. The contest starts at each local post, then moves onto regional, district and state levels. After each post level, winners receive incremental scholarships, with the national winner earning $18,000! Click here to learn more!

The Council on Foreign Relations

An invaluable resource for debate coaches, organizers, and participants, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher that provides in-depth analysis and background on the foreign policy choices and opportunities facing the United States and the world today.

For information on current major topical and regional issues, consult CFR and Foreign Affairs sources, including the award-winning CFR.org websiteForeign Affairs magazine, ForeignAffairs.com, along with CFR books, task force reports and many other publications.

A historic perspective on international relations is provided by the complete, newly-released archive of Foreign Affairs. The magazine celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, and is offering curated collections chronicling the grand themes of communism and fascism, American hegemony and decline, and globalization and the foremost theme of the future: the rise of the rest.

American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials

The League is pleased to partner with AASHTO in providing additional information about this year's Policy Debate topic. A timely and relevant resource for coaches and students alike, the Association is the voice for transportation and catalyst for organizational and technical excellence. AASHTO advocates transportation-related policies and provides technical services to support states in their efforts to efficiently and safely move people and goods.

For more information on transportation finance, including congressional and association reports to news articles and studies, visit the AASHTO's Online Resource Center at NFL.transportation.org. You may also check out the Association's monthly essays in Rostrum magazine.

HeinOnline

The National Forensic League is proud to partner with William S. Hein & Co. to provide all League members with access to HeinOnline—an outstanding source of legal scholarship normally only available to law students and legal professionals—at no additional cost.

According to Hein: “HeinOnline is Hein’s premier online research product with more than 80 million pages of legal history available in a fully searchable, image-based format. HeinOnline bridges the gap in legal history by providing comprehensive coverage from inception of more than 1,600 law and law-related periodicals. In addition to its vast collection of law journals, HeinOnline also contains the Congressional Record Bound volumes in entirety, complete coverage of the U.S. Reports back to 1754, famous world trials dating back to the early 1700s, legal classics from the 16th to the 20th centuries, the United Nations and League of Nations Treaty Series, all United States Treaties, the Federal Register from inception in 1936, the CFR from inception in 1938, and much more.”

Teach For America

The National Forensic League has partnered with Teach For America to provide TFA corps members and alumni with high quality tools, curriculum, and professional development to enhance their skills as educators and, in turn, spark success for their students. The partnership also creates an interactive conduit for training teachers to build new afterschool speech and debate programs at their schools. Click here to learn more!
